Hey hun!

yeah i know its hard to find ingredients for some American recipies and they call things different over there. Do you know of that coconut cream that comes in in hard blockes- looks like a bar of soap and loadsa people use it for rice an peas? I think that would be our version cus wen you buy it, it is also seperated, like in that youtoube link- oil on top with the crean on the bottom, you could try that?

I use the coconut cream all the time! I love it! But on the youtube vids, the concentrate looked more like a kind of thick hair product. It looked different to the cream. I thought about buying that instead, but I’m not sure if it would work! But I might give it a try now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I know! Its lovley, and i do think it is our only alternative- maybe (and i have never tried this befor) but if you heat it in the microwave, it might melt and change into the right consistency- heat it in 10 sec intervals and see what happens

I found some coconut cream concentrate at red23.co.uk, its expensive but the jar lasts a long time. It has has a heavier harder consistency than coconut cream and doesn’t melt as readily.

I’ve also seen something similar on this site , aromantic.co.uk, its in the fats and waxes category, they sell coconut butter in both organic and non organic form which I would imagine does the same job. I used to use the coconut cream treatment but found it made parts of my hair look straggly. I still use it on my daughter’s hair to make it a bit easier to manage. I do love the caramel treatment though

Thanks Karina for the site!
Sorry the treatment didn’t work out, but I’m glas it works on your daughter. People don’t need all these chemical texture softeners! lol What have u found the caramel treatment does 2 ur hair?

Hi Lela7,
when I do the caramel treatment I leave out whetgerm oil as i don’t have any, think my recipe was 4oz each of molasses, honey, olive oil, solid coconut oil, cocoa butter or shea cider vinegar oh nearly forgot-n a 100g tub of cow and gate pureed apple, banana&  strawberry(they come in packs of 4 pots). If you use fresh ripe bananas you need to sieve them I tried but it was messy and labour intensive and you still get little strands of banana fibre stuck in your hair!

It made enough for 3 or 4 treatments and I froze the remainder. It makes my hair feel strong and moisturized not really soft but not hard either, just stronger. I don’t heat straighten it but it would be interesting to see what it was like straightened after this treatment.

Just noticed this topic

I did a coconut creme treatment back in March, using this recipe: http://blackhairinformation.com/other-hair-treatments/the-coconut-and-lime-treatment-for-natural-black-hair/

My verdict… really inconclusive. I didn’t really notice any difference but I doubt I would remember many positives as I tried to do a roller set straight after and it went horribly wrong (really really awful crunchy…eww)

I froze the remainder but am not in a rush to do it again. That being said, I have heard that it’s only with repeat treatments you see a difference. I’m much more intrigued by the caramel one tho - my hair recently underwent an olive oil, honey and aloe vera pre-poo treatment and seemed to like it very much, so the caramel one would either be bliss or overkill… (fingers crossed for the former)

I think Biona organic creamed coconut would be a cheap alternative to the expensive coconut cream concentrate. It would probably contain bits so would have to be melted into hot water first then sieved then reduced down to remove water.

i’m going to do the coconut treatment on the back of my head as I have so much shrinkage there
