I’ve still not made it - my feet haven’t touched the ground this past week. And I’m supposed to be on leave for until next Thursday so I’m hoping I’ll have time to do this and make the caramel treatment too.

And I can test out the deodorant as today, for the first time ever, I - wait for it - joined the gym.  So I’ll find out the hard way if it works on my wet patches!

Signature

Wash: Pure Nuff Stuff hair cleanser or Black soap
Rinse out: Faith in Nature Jojoba
Leave-in: If I use one, it’s AOHR
Gel: Home-made flax/aloe/jojoba mix
Scrunchy crunchy: Anita Grant cafe latte
Odds & ends: ACV & honey
I love Flexi-8’s & anything by Anita Grant, Akamuti or Pure Nuff Stuff

oooh i looooove this too!!!
i have 2 recipes i go between and the website helped too..
but i think i prefer my runnier one. it reallllly works, better than anything else (in the natural range)
i still sweat but i never ever smell.

Deodorant http://www.instructables.com/id/Deodorant/

2 T cornstarch (absorbs water)
2 T baking soda (deodorizes)
1 T coconut oil (softens)
a splash of witch hazel (to get the desired consistency)
5-8 drops tea tree oil
5-8 drops lavender oil

or runnier one:

2T Cornstarch
1 1/2T Baking Soda
1T Coconut Oil
1T Shea Butter
1-2t Olive Oil
1-2T Witch Hazel or water (or both if you prefer)
1 dropper full of colloidal silver
10-12 drops of each essential oil you choose

Gently melt oils and shea butter over very low heat. Remove from heat and add essential oils. Mix cornstarch and baking soda in a separate bowl then add Witch Hazel/water and colloidal silver. Add melted oil mixture and whip with a fork. Spoon deodorant into you chosen container and place the fridge.

I keep meaning to make a natural deodorant but I worry about smelling and the effectiveness wearing off after a few weeks (a problem I usually encounter with natural deodorants).

I take it T = tablespoon?  Could you tell me where you buy the colloidal silver?  I did a search on google and found a company but they talk about 12ppm or 30ppm silver - which is best?  And what size is your dropper?  Sorry for the questions but I’d like to get it right.  If I could be odour free with my own home-made doedorant, I’d be over the moon.  Thanks.

yes T is one tablespoon.. i actually make my own colloidal silver.. following this method.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QObUxP5YQ8 but i know you can buy it at health food stores here in the USA…
my dropperful is probably 30 drops or so, but I dont think you can add too much really as the benefits of colloidal silver is great. hth

Oh no, I wont even attempt to make my own.  Too scientific for my capabilities!  I’ll see how the original thread’s recipe goes and may refer back to yours with silver in due course.  I just made myself a batch so I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes. cheese

Thanks for your help.

I got this recipe from another forum and have been using it since last weekend.  It is really easy to make and more importantly works!  Well worth trying if anyone isn’t liking the normal deodorants.

1 tablespoon cornflour
1 tablespoon b of soda
1 tablespoon of olive oil
6 drops tea tree oil
6 drops any other essential oil you have

Mix together.  I have it in a little jar with a screw top.  (you don’t need a huge container).  Then when using its like a lotion so I just rub a bit on my underarms.  It may feel a little ‘gritty’ when you are rubbing it in but that goes.

smile

I tried this and I think its fantastic.  I just hope it’ll stand the test of time.  grin

I’m still using it carmengirl and it hasn’t let me down yet.  Like Keisha Jo I added a smidgeon more oil to my latest batch as it rubs in quicker- just a tiny tiny bit.

CHM thats good to hear that it still hasnt let you down.  I dont seem to have a problem with rubbing it in - I’m quite heavy-handed so maybe I added enough oil anyway.

Day 2 and still no sign of any odour or wetness.  Mind you, wetness doesnt bother me but being pongy would.

Love it!

I have pretty sensitive skin, and I learnt the hard way a while ago that my armpits abhor bicarb by itself - and the oil isn’t reducing the friction enough for me (or moisturising enough)

So what I’ve been doing and puting a dab of water on first, then mixing the deodorant recipe with my body butter. For me, personally, this goes a long way to reducing the itch factor! ^_^

Just a quick update on how I am doing….I am such a dab hand at mixing this up now I can just eyeball the amounts and add more or less of what I need. Also I have been keeping mine in the fridge and it is just so beautiful to use chilled since the weather has warmed up smile Lovely and refreshing!
