I’m going to track my progress here smile my aim, having just turned cg (curly girl as in no shampoos or silicones) properly 6 days ago, is to get slightly more curly curls , not much but back to my former my curly curls that i had before -while getting rid of frizz.. which i don’t mind a huge amount, but would be nice if it did go away smile

I’ve done some experimenting already and find I can quite easily make my hair too oily, by applying certain products too much etc.. I might go back to catalogue those days too. Yeah I think I will later on today and edit it into this post..

Yesterdays hair was ok until the end of the day where it felt nice and soft but looked oily and was def overconditioned, esp noticeable on the temples. It felt nice though, all smooth and conditioned, but just a bit too heavy or something.
DT, CO wash:
co washed hair at night having put a DT of AOHSR on for about 30 mins prior. Co-washed it out with suave ocean breeze

What I did for stylin/leavin:
I put a bit of KCKT on the ends, not too much, then loaded up my hair with lock and twist gel (too much!) and then a pea size amount of BRHG.
It was curly, and less frizzy but was too oily and heavy.. having looked at the ingredients for the lock twist gel it is no wonder if is filled with oils for the first few ingredients and i had piled it on! oops, well good to know.

I plopped and everything but took it out before sleeping on wet/damp hair.

lesson learned= dont overload on Organic lock and twist gel, it is VERY rich, or was it the DT or the KCKT? must figure out through a scientific process of elimination lol! Sleeping on damp hair gives big loopy C curls albiet a tad on the scruffy side but kinda cool. pic is the closeup showing OC’d

But here is my hair today.
What i did:

To get rid of yesterdays OC, oily feeling/looking hair, I had to do another co-wash today, so no 2nd day hair :(
I cowashed with suave ocean breeze (this bottle is nearly finished and seemed fine at its job, though smell could be nicer, it is a protein free one) a few times making sure i got my temples where the hair is fine and where it looks oily the most.
The I attempted the super soaker again, but prob did it wrong..
tipped my head upside down and rinsed out hair in shower, it got tangled when i did this, just like last time( i hate doing this and wont do it again!) so i reached for my KCKT and got them out with a comb, most of that rinsed out prob.
Got out of shower head dripping all over.. to sink where i took handfuls of water to my head and encouraged clumping via the super soaker method. it clumped fine.. but was so wet, duh.. so added some Curl Keeper and then some LAsports gel and then plopped. Worried that my hair was soo wet that the product was diluted. Plopped again with a new towel. then short diffuse to get rid of drips.. then let air dry.
Result- hair is ok.. curls are fine.. but there is a bunch of frizz and the plopping made my cows lick worse. At least i didnt OC or OP (over product) prob should have added gel differently or more of it since it was so wet.. forgot how she did it on that super soaker vid.

ok i def started this all backwards, but this is my good hair day on the 25th ! smile where i just started CG properly having done it sort of for a month or so but with cone laden products so had to shampoo every once in a while.
Sooo.. on the 25th of March

I put a mask on my hair of 1 Banana blended up with a 3rd of a can of coconut cream, mixed with some failed FSG that was too emolient, it had a mixture of unrefined Shea butter, aloe gel, FSG, and vit e oil. Left this on my head in a bun for about an hr.
In the shower I did my last sulphate shampoo!  Using my Neutrogena anti build up one first then an algan oil shampoo too also has sulphate. I did an ACV rinse next and then a co wash with my Suave.
I think did a condition with some of aldis conditioning Balm for a while rinsed it all out.

Styling :
Put tons of my homemade watery FSG in my hair, tons of it almost 4 oz.. it was very wet so this was almost like the super soaker method. Didn’t add any other gels for hold. Plopped twice.. 3o mins total.. airdried.

The result : ended up with really nice hair.. not too frizzy, pretty curly too smile  and i got nice 2nd day hair too yayayay

Yesterday i was itching!!!!!!!!!!! aghghghgh .. maybe just transitional… i hope…
today i water washed - just in case it is my Suave that is irritating me. Added KCKT to detangle in shower and rinsed some out.

Styled with:
KY jelly!! and fruit of the earth aloe vera gel.
Didnt do any fancy super clumper or anything so will see.. looks like less clumps while wet already, plopped and diffused a little on cold.. just air drying now.

Maybe co-washing is quite harsh for the scalp—this would be the reason for itchiness??... I was comparing it to the oil cleansing method on my face.. when ever i do this my skin is very VERY clean, almost in a harsh way, makes sense because oil dissolves oil better than water can.. so I was thinking maybe the scalp is getting too clean, not the other way around.. i was really scrubbing too and did 2 rounds of co-washing just to be sure yesterday and i was really itchy all day, never really noticed it so much before. Still itchy now but not so much while it is still wet.. hoping the FOTE will help too.
KY is basically glycerine, so this is a good test to see if my hair likes it. smile

It dried really nice. not too much crunch to crunch out, hardly at all. Plus my hair seems curlier, i am thinking that the super soaker clumps them too much and my normal way works better for me, plus it cut down on drying.

Don’t know if its the cowashing that causes an itchy scalp, as when I was cowashing my scalp felt amazing. It has never felt so comfortable. After 3ish months though, I have to say my hair does look better with using sulphates, co-washing weighs my hair down too much. The downside to that is my head has started itching again.

So today i decided to co-wash again.. it was def less itchy yesterday so that was good. Yesterday by the end of the day didnt feel so nice, it was fine but felt a bit scratchy, maybe the aloe gel I am thinking.

Today i co-washed with Suave and then a little natures gate tea tree conditioner because of its calming properties, rinsing it all out.

Styled : with 3-4 oz of homemade flax seed gel.. i think the one with glycerine in it perhaps, so will see how that works. I put a ton in my hair because i wanted to use it all up as it was on the verge of going out of date. I topped it off with a big pea sized amount of Biosilks rock hard gellee.
I have just taken it down from my 3rd plop and diffused it for a good 10 mins. Def feels crunchy, hope it crunches out ok, still really wet at the mo.

So it is taking aaaaaages to dry.. no wonder with all that product.. sheesh!

well anyways.. it is super curly but wow there is crunch and it crunched out a little ( with a tiny bit of coconut oil) but still feels stiff and the texture is not my cup of tea. Too dry and scratchy. I dont really like the way it looks either. Seems to be getting caught in itself and a bit unruly, no likey! Hense miserable face, lol. I think it was the BSRHG that did it, have yet to get this to work for me.

Plus I dont think my highlights are working well at all, I’ve had them for about 3 years, and they are expensive! but half the photos it looks like a big clump will randomly appear.
They are under the canopy partial highlights,  when they start to grow out you can’t tell as much, which is great, but meh.. for the expense of them and them not looking great, i think i might ask him to take them back to a honey color nearer my own color and slowly grown them out.
What do you think?

You have really great hair, dandycurls - gorgeous! I know what you mean about the highlights clumping a bit - I think it’s always trickier to highlight thick, curly hair as - unlike straight hair - curly hair kind of does it’s own thing and can look completely different from one day to the next! IMHO, I think going back to a honey colour would be great. You could always add a few, slightly lighter highlights at the front to frame your face.

thanks so much! yeah that is the problem, i think i will.. it will be nice to go slightly more natural after so long of spending the 100+ everytime i get them redone.
After wearing my hair all day i decided i do not like what i did to it today at all.. doesnt feel nice at all, very producty and started to look kind of dirty by the end of the day. Just put some Aldi conditioning Balm in and am gonna sleep in it with a satin cap to cover.. and start over with fresh co-washed hair tomorrow.Might try FSG with less brhg this time.. i know my hair loves FSG, it is just trying to get it to hold all day that is the problem. night yall

Soooooo, this is soo fun tee hee!, I continued my hair experiments today…

i DC all night with the conditioning Balm.. and just co washed it out with Suave OB, Didnt do a leave in or anything because I have heard some people say there can be a film with the balm and hopefully it has enough moisture after all night on.

Used a lot of flax seed gel again, but this one i know the recipe doesnt have glycerine, I know this recipe my hair loves <3 ... so added a smaller amount of BRHG a pea this time rather than a large pea.. i did the supersoaker in between these 2 and added a little more fsg after it, but after watching the video again, realized I should have added the gel aftr i soaked not before… duh.. oh well i did add a little more afterwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5PpS7vj1Ho
Plopped for a shorter time and then scrunched with some dry flour sacks.

My hair is almost dry and it feels nice and soft - but fine and flyaway with some frizzing going on, but some nice clumping of curls too. I think it will turn out nice but is doing my classic flufyness after i condition thingy.

will post a pic and update later.

After seeing my hair so fine looking and reading more on NC i went off to get myself some things from Sallys.. a Denman brush and some Kpac protein treatment.
I am soooo excited to try both!!!! i almost want to wet my hair and do it straight away lol, maybe i will because my BF is doing the normal taking aaaaaaages to want to leave the house and do our fun day out, and this might keep my patient and occupied. The denman will hopefully help with the supersoaker and give me less frizz, i hope so .. yay i love buying stuff!!!!!
I also just bought some stuff online from curl junkie, everyone raves so i cant wait to try them!!! woop woop!!

Dandycurls love your hair!  Looks great and your diary sounds fabulous you are trying so many things sounds like your getting a good idea of what you hair likes grin

Identified with you on not washing your hair upside down, I have hardly any hair in comparison but that makes my hair really tangly!

Am also so impressed with your FSG experiments, I’m too much of a wimp to try making it, Im not that great in the kitchen LOL

thanks so much!!! yeah i love reading peoples discoveries and i love making my own too.

So today… my hair is still drying.. so verdict is still out.
I co-washed and did a k-pac protein treatment for 3-5 mins.. jumped in shower and rinsed out - i started to feel my hair being rough.. oh crap i thought!! (This is my first protein mask ever) so I immediately put on a DT of conditioning balm and aubrey organics honeysuckle rose.. i even applied heat to it by putting my neck heating pads under my towel.. clevah aye!:)
So i jumped in shower after maybe 20 mins, rinsed while applying acv rinse.. then some KCKT and left it in.
Felt ok at this time, phew!

Did the super soaker - properly this time- and with the Denman brush… def see better clumps!! Used only my FSG today and short plop, short diffuse on cold and now just air drying..
Cant wait to see how it turns out and to see if my hair loves or hates protein.. or is indifferent..

Turned out great, nice soft curly hair! woohoo, guess my hair doesn’t hate protein..smile... my curls are nice and defined although a little too oily looking, prob cos of the products—dt, leave in and flax seed, which has oils too. I also scrunched out with coconut oil.. so yeah my hair is nice and moisturized.
Will be interesting how it wears tomorrow etc.

thanks so much everyone!! I am even getting 2nd day hair today smile looks ok, just less curly and more wavy, even though it got ruffled last night (teehee wink I just sprayed it with my lavendar water mix and scrunched in some kccc.
Going to give my hair a break and not do much with it over the next few days, perhaps.. I cant resist experimenting though and i know my curl junkie stuff will be here soon. yippee!

Time to make more flax seed gel today too.
