SHAMPOO - COME CLEAN It is very important to REMOVE old product BUILDUP from your hair and start with a CLEAN SLATE. Oils, butters, grease, wax and silicone coat the hair shaft and must be COMPLETELY WASHED OUT. Residue and/or product buildup may cause white film or flakes.
DETANGLE - KNOT TODAYApply a generous amount and comb through your hair with a WIDE TOOTH COMB while it is soaking wet with conditioner. On tight curls DO NOT RINSE OUT. On loose curls rinse and leave a little on the ends.
STYLE - CURLING CUSTARDOn tight curls divide hair into SMALL sections and apply to SOAKING WET hair. SMOOTH each section with fingers from the root to the ends of the hair. If a section starts to dry RE-WET with water from a spray bottle. On loose curls hair can be damp and you can scrunch into bigger sections of hair.
ALLOW TO AIR DRY * DO NOT TOUCH * MAY CAUSE FRIZZ

I used this to do a wet twist out. It gave me excellent curl definition i loved it! got a lot of comliments on my hair! The only problem is that it was quite gluey i dont know if it was due to the amount i used. Also it takes long to dry and i had to use a dryer. I will deffo buy it again! im going to try it on a wash and go

I followed the instructions to the letter and from reading previous comments on various websites about not using too much, as it makes the hair crunchy I was very wary of this. I kept a spray bottle of water handy making sure every section was soaking wet before applying the product. Yes, it takes a while to dry but still looks great wet. I say just follow the instructions for your hair type. Transformed my TWA to a headful of cute curls!!

KC Culing custard is the only product that tames the frizz of my 3a wavy/curly hair and maintains elongation as long as I don't scrunch....as recommended in many curl videos...instead I use the tangle teezer or brush to elongage my curls first and then put 1 teaspoon of KCCC rubbed into my hands first, on top of my entire head, especially my edges.
The result: Elongation is kept through most of the day. Best of all: SHINE (finally!) and zero frizz and compliments from random people all day.

Perfect product! But I suggest following directions when using this. I find that unlike other products, it's really important to actually go through the steps to get the great results.
My tricks:
1) Moisture under the custard is an absolute must. So either use water or even better, a very light leave-in. Using a conditioner has not worked for me...too heavy. Using it on dry hair...does not seem to work either.
2)For second or third day hair, the custard does not have the same effect, unless I REWET hair because again, moisture (either water or a leave-in) is needed under this product. Caveat: Hair should not be wet but DAMP (excess water removed) or it will take forever to dry). I use a SPRAY BOTTLE.
3)I only use a coin size and gloss it over the hair. Usually I have to use 10 times what's recommended for a product. Not true with this one.
4) great hold for hair types like 3a-c.
...And I love that the product does not leave flakes or reside. I love the smell and that it's so natural! Despite the price, I will not go back to any gel with alcohol, bad oils like mineral oil, etc...

This product was so popular, I did not want to join a trend. But after trying the entire Curls line and even Darcy's jelly (a brand I love) and Hairveda's jelly....I finally came to the world of Kinky Kurly. There is no better custard on the market. I use either Darcy's Daily leave in or the Knot today under it. I prefer Darcy's. I use any shampoo, recently, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration. The custard is what makes the difference. Defined beautiful shiny curls for my daughter's lovely 3a hair. She gets compliments all the time from schoolmates and teachers.

This product was such a waste.

I've been wanting to try this for a while now, and am glad I did! It's an alternative to Mixed Chicks, which I now boycott. I find it gives much better hold for my hair, which ranges from 2c to 3c and is fine and dry. The first time I used it I went a bit overboard and used too much so am just working on getting it right; but I am now converted to KCCC! I like that it's reactivated by water and also use the KCSS along with it. From the reviews I've read it seems to work better with looser curl types (3s).

This product didn't work for me at all.

I've read so many good reviews about this product that I'm terribly disappointed now that I've tried it: it simply does not work for my 3b hair at all. It left it frizzy and dry.A big no no for me I'm afraid...

I first read about this on a messageboard then watched a few videos on Youtube. I decided to order and give it a try on my 4a hair.
First of all the delivery to Holland was very quick! I washed my hair then applied the custard with wet hair while combing my hair with a wide tooth comb. I was very happy with the results.
The only reason this did not get five stars was became it did not help prevent shrinkage.I will be ordering this again.

Yes it is expensive and yes the drying time is LONG which is why I give it 4/5. I use the other 2 products as directed and get lovely soft and well defined curls on my 3 type hair. I treat my hair with all 3 products early in the morning and then let it "drip" with a towel round my shoulders for my breakfast...very attractive! After that I can give it a quick scrunch and even though it is still damp to feel it looks ok. There is little shrinkage. To minimise knotts and frizz I loosely tie back my hair at night. Re wetting/dampening in the morning enables the curls to last a good 3 days before returning to becoming frizzy or beginning to develop dreads. Worth the money if used strictly a directed.

I have bought the product as I had seen a positive review in Black Hair Magazine and I must say that I am glad that I gave it a try. I washed and conditioned my hair and unlike the description on the package I did towel dry my (very thick and curly 4c afro) hair a little bit but it still defined the curls very nicely. It smells nice and leaves the hair soft and frizz free. Even on the second day my curls looked nice and felt great! I have to admit that after reading a few of the reviews I was sceptical but I will be definetly buying this product again!!!!! The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is that I think the fact that youre supposed to apply the product on dripping wet hair which leaves you with a long drying time put me off a little bit. Apart from that it could be a little bit more moisturising and less sticky!!! But nevertheless this is the best product I have used on my hair and I have tried a whole lot!! I guess you will have to use it a couple of time to define the right amount to use in your hair and of course no product will change the natural texture of your hair but this one definetly gets the best out of what you got.

I really shouldn't have bothered with this product, (but me being a product junkie that I am plus hearing so many good reviews about it thought - why not?) eish, I should have listened to my gut instincts and not purchased this - waaaaaay too expensive as well (infact, why are all kinky curly products this expensive? :-S ....this product especially really didn't do it for me, took too long to dry and the shrinkage was unbelievable, left alot of white residue as well, that I ended up cowashing my hair a few hours later to remove the product!
Such a shame (really had high hopes with this), I guess the lesson learnt is not all expensive products deliver the best results!
Wouldn't recommend this to anyone!

I love this product. I've tried quite a few styling products on my 3b/c curls and this is the best by far. My problem with other products is that my hair became dry and frizzy by the end of the day. This curling custard gives me curls I didn't know I had and adds, shine and definition. I use the entire product line! Look no further..this stuff is fabulous!

il fait bien son boulot. defini les boucles, meme les 4b-4c. par contre l'odeur est discrete mais pas genial. et puis, pour 8oz, c'est vraiment trop trop cher.

Love this gel, super slippy & moisturising, good hold although I sometimes but a wee bit BRGH on top for that extra hold. This is my true staple!

So..after reading some rather good reviews on this product I decided to give it a try. The results were not what I had hoped for...way too much shrinkage for my liking. I am also not keen on the drying time, the white flakes that you get when you shake your hair the following day and the fact that the product goes crazy when you add oils. I like oiling my hair and scalp and if I follow the direction for this product I cant :( BUT I have discovered that if you use a minimal amount....and I mean m-i-n-i-m-a-l!!!...then you can still use oils ect Although in this case, its really not worth it. Yes I got defined curls but not what I was looking for...so I will not be purchasing again.

To be honest I've tried lots of other products to define my curls and avoided Kinky Curly because of the high price. Then I finally decided to take the hit and try this product as I was constantly reading such great reviews.
I was definitely happy with the final results, and so far, after only one application, I've managed to keep my curls looking decent for 3 days now and considering the small amount you need to use during an application I'd estimate that the 8oz jar could potentially last approximately 4.5 weeks. This is all good news but there are a couple of drawbacks....
This product doesn't seem to work well with products from different ranges. For example; I shampooed and conditioned my hair with my usual products (not Kinky Curly brand) but when I began to apply the Curling Custard it didn't seem to be curling very well. After checking the tips section on the Kinky Curly website I read that they suggest the only products you use are their's for best results. Apparently the ingredients in other products may stop the gel from working properly. So in the interest of trying to get it right, I shampooed my hair again completely stripping it of any conditioner that may have been left in. This time when applying the Curling Custard the results were amazing.
As good as the results are I doubt I'll buy this product again. For those who can afford to spend lots each month on hair products and who are particularly fond of the Kinky Curly product line as a whole, then its a good choice..... For me, I think the prices of the products are excessive and the lack of versatility is an issue.

Great curl enhancer used with knot today! I got bouncy curls and great shrinkage. I'd buy it again!

I know a lot of people struggle with getting the application of this right but I just use it as I would any other styling product (blot excess water out of my hair with my hands and a towel after shampooing and conditioning then rake through and air dry) and I get consistently good results on my 3b-c hair. I find it moisturising enough to use on its own, I only need a tiny bit (which makes it a bit less expensive!) and it holds my fine but fairly thick fly-away hair in place well. I get a nice shine on my hair (which is unusual I think with curly hair) and rarely get crunch that can't be scrunched out easily.
