I’ve always had wavy frizzy hair, and I hated it. The photo of me blowing out the candles was when I was 13, pre straighteners and brushing out any possible curl formation!
I then started bleaching, colouring and straightening my hair for about 7 years. I loved my rainbow curls but I couldn’t grow it past shoulder length because it was so straw-like, I eventually decided to go natural.
Whilst I grew it out I used colour before to get rid of as much pink as possible, dyed it brown and put on occasional 6 to 8 week non permanent brown dyes to tone down the bleach coming back through. I then left it to grow out and got it cut regularly (and wore a lot of hats!). I used Joico K Pak deep conditioner to help with the condition whilst growing it out, and I used a lot of silicone based products.
It took a couple of years to grow out but I then started embracing my curls. Now I love my long curly hair and how low maintenance it is.
On my hair now I am sulphate and silicone free. I use Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo, Yes to Coconut ultra moisture conditioner, and then to style on wet hair I use Curl Harmony Curl Reviver, Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper, and Body Shop Wheatgrass Fixing Gel. To style, I blow dry with a diffuser. I also deep condition fortnightly with Curl Harmony Intensive Repair Deep Conditioner.
I refresh my next day hair by spritzing it with Aubrey Chia Detangler or putting on some watered down Curl Harmony Curl Reviver if it’s gone very frizzy.
