If you want to maximise moisture retention and strengthen hair, pre-pooing might be the answer.
What is a pre-poo?
Pre-poo is short for pre-shampoo as it is a treatment you apply to your hair before you wash. Usually treated with a blend of conditioners and oils, a pre-poo can be done overnight, or before you wash.
The benefits of a pre-poo
The top benefit of a pre-shampoo is that it helps to retain moisture, lost through shampooing. By sealing your hair before you wash, you protect your natural oils. In turn, this strengthens your strands and helps to minimise breakage. Pre-pooing also helps with detangling, making the strands soft and manageable while you wash.
How to pre-poo
Divide your hair into four or more sections and apply your pre-poo, making sure you get good coverage. Put on a plastic shower cap and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with clean water. Follow with your cleanser and wash as normal.
You can also leave the treatment on overnight for an extra deep treatment before rinsing and washing the next day.
If you want to pre-poo home recipes, there are many options to try. Most of these ingredients you can find in your kitchen cupboard and are quick and easy to make. Don’t leave homemade treatments on overnight.
