Styling curls with personal lubricant is a popular #producthack within the Curly Girl communities. It helps define curls and reduce frizz. Some have actually compared it to our faithful Curl Keeper due to the ingredients being very similar.
For fine curls, personal lubricant is thought to work well because it has a very light consistency so it should not weigh your hair down.
How to use
Try using lube as a base definer for under your gel or use it on its own. It can also be used as a finishing product for when you scrunch out the crunch from your styling gel. Some Curlies also use it as a refresher for 2nd / 3rd day curls.
Which one should I try?
If you follow the Curly Girl Method then you want to make sure that you find one without silicones. Water based lubricants such as Gleitfreude or the name most of us know, KY Jelly is amongst the most popular.
What to watch out for
Glycerin is usually high on the ingredients list so it may not work so well for some people in humidity.
If personal lubricant isn’t your first choice for a light weight styling product then try Curl Keeper!
