How to Get Curly Hair to Grow Faster

Having a curly hair can be a great asset when your curls are beautiful and shiny. However, growing them faster can be quite a challenge if you don’t know how to take care of them.

In this article, we discuss some great tips to get your curly hair to grow faster. If you want to know more, keep reading!

Be Careful With Your Washing Routine

As curly hair-owners, we want it to be shiny and beautiful all the time. However, I’ve realized that I can’t achieve that if I wash it every day.

Our hair is more likely to be dry. If we wash it every day, we also take away all its natural oils. As a consequence, we should avoid that.

Instead, we can wash it a few times a week. Overall, the best thing we can do is find the perfect washing routine depending on the curls we have.

In other words, different types of curls need various washing routines. If your curls are tight, you probably don’t need to wash your hair so often.

Another tip I can give you for your washing routine is to section your hair into pieces. Very dense curls need their owners to break them down into smaller sections, while less dense curls can do well with bigger ones. Likewise, you should always use the best products for your hair.

I remember one time I didn’t have my special shampoo for curly hair and stayed at a friend’s house. I made the terrible mistake of using her straight hair shampoo, and my beautiful curls suffered the consequences. Ensure you don’t commit the same error I did, and your curls can look beautiful.

Make Sure it Doesn’t Break

Sadly, for us with curly hair, breakage is a constant danger. While straight hair grows with a round diameter in each of its strands, curls look like ribbons and are flat.

Therefore, people with curly hair are more prone to suffer from constant breakages, which makes hair growth very difficult. If you add some dehydration to that, it can get even worse. Thus, it could be impossible for you to grow your hair if this is your case.

The good thing is that there is a simple way to fight the breakage monster: moisturizing! With enough hydration, your hair can look incredibly beautiful. Thus, you need to pamper your curls with the right products to keep them moisturized and everything can be fine.

Use Towels Carefully

Towels can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you grab a towel and rub it against your hair, you can give your breakage monsters more chances of appearing.

However, if you gently squeeze your hair with the towel, you will dry it out the way you want to without damaging it.

You can also choose to drop out the towel completely as I did. After I stopped using towels, I chose to dry my hair with cotton cloths. Although there are also microfiber cloths, cotton was accessible to me in my house, so I chose that path. Both of them are very soft in our curls and better than a towel, so you can use them too without any issue.

What to Avoid

If you want to maintain beautiful hair with shiny curls, there are also some things you should learn to avoid as I did. When I stopped doing these things, my curls also improved amazingly.

Now, let’s get down to it!

Heat

Some time ago, I tried to manage my curls by using a hair straightener. That was one of the worst choices I’ve made.

Besides making my hair limp and fragile, my curls looked awful. I don’t want that happening to you. As I mentioned, our hair structure makes it more prone to breakage and dehydration. That’s why heat-styling is so damaging for us.

Therefore, try to avoid it as much as you can. If you have to use heat or simply want to go with a different look, make sure you use a product to protect your curls beforehand.

Combs With Fine Teeth

I strongly advise against using combs with fine teeth. Besides damaging our curls, these types of combs hurt when you use them!

When I’ve used a fine-toothed comb, my head hurt after combing my curls. Thus, you should avoid them at all costs and use combs with wide teeth instead.

Likewise, remember to stay away from brushes. They’re also not our friends, especially if we try to use them with wet hair. They can only make our hair more fragile, and almost impossible to grow.

Ponytails

I can’t deny that ponytails are cute. However, if we use them every day, they can cause irreversible damage to our naturally beautiful curls.

As a consequence, the best thing to do is to wear them once in a while instead of every day. Of course, I understand that it’s not always possible.

Suppose your work demands you use your hair tied back in a ponytail. If that’s your case, you should get non-tangle ties for it, or ensure your knot is loose when you tie it.

Don’t use rubber bands under any case, nor ties with any metal pieces on them. You will risk hair tangling if you do so. Likewise, remember: wearing tight ponytails every day can make your hair fragile and more difficult to grow.

Always Have a Stylist

Although I’ve told you incredible tips, you should have a stylist that knows your hair. They are professionals and can guide you so you look beautiful.

To grow amazing curly hair, you might also need to trim it once in a while. Thus, make sure your curls are in the right hands.

Growing curly hair can be quite a challenge if you don’t know some tips. However, now that you do, try it out! They worked for me, and they can also work for you! I know you can get long, beautiful, shiny curls in no time if you take care of them.
